Martin Winter is the
youngest of nine children, born to Eric and Marge Winter.
Eric's father became the tenant farmer of Upper Tulley Wells farm just
outside Lewes, East Sussex in September 1916. The Winter's
were already a long established Sussex farming family.
Eric was a member of the Commercial Bonfire Society in Lewes prior to
World War II and was a leading light in the Borough bonfire society of
Lewes, being Chairman for over twenty six years and also their
President. Eric was also a prominent member of the Lewes Bonfire
Council.
Eric was one of the main suppliers of fireworks and bonfire related
materials throughout Lewes and the rest of Sussex.
Bonfire is in the Winter family's blood with all nine children being
involved in the Lewes Societies at different times of their lives, as
you can see from some of the photos on this site.
Martin and his wife Julie have three children: Nathan, Stuart and Holly
and have lived on Marlie Farm in Lewes for over twenty years, this
being the site of both their home and business.
Following the tragic accident in December 2006, the family were left
with just the clothes they were wearing having lost both their home and
all of their
possessions in the fire.
The following years since the fire have proved to be a living nightmare
for the family culminating in the wrongful conviction of Martin and
Nathan and their subsequent imprisonment while Julie, Stuart and Holly
struggle to deal with the continuing fallout. |
